Evans & Peel launch secret bar in the heart of Chiswick

tmrw was recently invited down to the exciting launch of Evans & Peel new ’20s prohibition-style bar and restaurant. Kind of them, that.

Disguised as an old London pharmacy in West London’s Chiswick and five years since the opening of their infamous Detective Agency bar, the hidden spot is styled with vintage furniture, giving guests the feel of walking into a 1920s pharmacy. It serves an extensive cocktail list, plus small plates of American classics from the period, too.

The bar has a secret entrance fronted by a 192os themed pharmacy. To enter, you find yourself ringing a doorbell to be greeted by the legendary pharmacist, faced with the task of getting into the famed bar. To do this, you need to know the secret password, which we have handily obtained for our readers: to gain access, just tell the pharmacist that you have a case of “dipsomania” – after this, he will escort you straight into the bar through the pharmacy, as the windows black out to preserve its secret identity.

Once inside the venue is low lit and secluded, inviting guests into this strange and unknown world. Antique surgical equipment fills the room and draws located within the bar contain something new every time for guests. The cocktail list at Evans & Peel Pharmacy is a must visit, with variations of the classic Old Fashioned as well as innovative pharmacy inspired creations from the in-house bar team. Vintage Japanese whiskies and intricate spirits are on offer for those looking for something different, as well as sophisticated wines and Champagnes.

The food menu features old-school American classics for those wanting snacks with their tipple – American grilled cheese sandwiches sit at the top of the menu, arriving in a cigar box with smoke seeping out of the side.

The Pharmacy makes going for a drink an adventure in itself – we must admit that the nerves were kicking in when we were  escorted into the Pharmacists waiting room to. Highly recommend for those wanting something slightly different. Good luck to you.
