With an exclusive look at the video for his single ‘To Chicago,’ Ciaran Lavery talks love, Kimye and his new album, Sweet Decay.
Ciaran Lavery wants to talk about love. Not the saccharine, conventional love that you hear about on the radio or see on a cinema screen. Lavery wants to talk about real love. A love that is unconditional and all encompassing…until it isn’t.
Nowhere is this more succinct than in ‘To Chicago,’ the latest single from Ciaran’s upcoming album ‘Sweet Decay.’
“I think people deserve some romance in their lives,” Ciaran says. “Even if it’s just in the form of a song. ‘To Chicago’ was my challenge to write and present something that was quite simply romantic. Human connection may be the most basic sought after experience we need.”
Ciaran also points out that the title of the song now pays homage to a certain newborn baby, saying that it is now “quite clearly an ode and celebration to Kimye, as well as a thank you for all they have given to me in terms of inspiration.”
Above all else, ‘To Chicago’ is a love song. Love is, of course, the most potent subjects for music for centuries. “It’s absolutely one of the most discussed topics,” he admits. “It carries a profound weight and meaning, although it changes shape, it can be elusive and almost impossible to define.”
When writing ‘To Chicago,’ Ciaran says it was “important to remember that love is all important until it is redundant. Capturing that moment of unconditional love is all that I wanted to do because it ebbs and flows like everything else that lives and breathes. Picture a line graph that peaks, plateaus and falls – I was talking about the peak.”
The song serves as a handy precursor to Ciaran’s second studio album, ‘Sweet Decay.’ Ciaran tells us that a specific inspiration behind the title was a quote from Chilean poet and politician Neruda.
“[He] said ‘there are cemeteries that are lonely.’ I agree with him.”
Asked what he hopes listeners will take away from listening to both the new single and the upcoming single, he has one simple thing in mind.
Ciaran will also be touring the UK too this April May, with the following dates;
