We all like a pair of Air Force 1s, don’t we.
You like them. I like them. Your mates; your family; lovers past and present. Your sworn nemesis – someone you can’t even bring yourself to look at when they enter a room –massively rates them, too. ‘Perhaps we’re not so different,’ you contemplate, watching as your mortal enemy strides around in a pair of nice white size 9s. See: the Air Force 1, bringing people together. Love it.
It wasn’t always that way, though. In the ’90s, fashion wouldn’t go near the shoe, leaving just a organic, street-level culture who was brave enough to stick around to embrace it. Now, for a new campaign, Nike is heading back to the inner city to celebrate the shoe’s independent roots and the underground buzz that carried from the outskirts into the wardrobes of, well, everyone. Starring AJ Tracey, Lil Simz and footballers Leah Williamson and Jadon Sancho, it’s about commemorating bold, brilliant legacy.
