The London four-piece have released a really good new song, so we got to know them a little bit better.
First impressions count, and Hows Harry have definitely made a great one with ‘Totem.’
The four-piece are effervescent on the track, which takes a decidedly more shiny edge than some of the boys’ earlier, darker material.
“I see it as a marker of our independence,” member Ru says to us. “And by that, I mean, the way in which we record and our approach to writing. I feel it really sums up where we are as a band.”
But the tracks genesis was quite some time ago, the band reveal. But now was the right moment to reveal it.
“I started working on the lyrics and the initial idea for the tune well over a year ago,” Ike says. “At [the] time, I was thinking a lot and writing a lot about fake news and the climate of fear. From that starting point, it kind of evolved into a semi-analogous comment on that told from the perspective of a couple.”
The band also got the chance to record a video for the track, which Loz reveals was their first ever video shoot.
“I just loved the whole thing,” he says. “Working with the team, having everyone work together towards a common goal.”
Tom says that the band’s aim following the release of ‘Totem’ are, to put it quite simply, “world domination” and you can’t really argue with that, right?
Loz however may be hedging his bets on a career outside music just in case;
“[I want to] open up a lasagne shop” he says. “From in which, we’ll write an album based on Neil Young and the creaminess of lasagne.”
That’s certainly the most bizarre career aspiration we’ve heard, but still, we’ll let them off because they’ve delivered a banger.
