A Personal Perspective on Depression:Tiffany Lauren Bennicke’s “But I Want to Leave the Party”

The Cannes World Film Festival witnessed the world premiere of "But I Want to Leave the Party," a film that not only left a lasting impression but also won its first two prestigious awards, although to date it has accumulated an impressive 36 awards and 26 nominations.

“But I Want to Leave the Party” goes into the depths of mental health. It sheds poignant light on moments of despair while illuminating the arduous journey toward healing. More than just a movie, this film serves as a catalyst for conversation, gently unraveling the complexities that many of us face when suffering from depression, for example, but at the same time leaving a message of hope and resilience.

The intention of the producer and protagonist of the film, Tiffany Lauren Bennicke, was always to raise awareness and gain a deeper understanding of what it is like to go through a disease of this type. Whether or not someone can connect with the film, Bennicke’s idea is to provide an honest perspective on what it is like to struggle with depression and deteriorating mental health, an experience that many are familiar with and that is not always easy to articulate.

The film was born from her own personal experiences with depression, so she is a more than qualified voice to address the topic from a constructive and accurate perspective.

In January of 2023, Tiffany launched her production company, “Leave the Party Films, Inc.” in honor of her first film. Additionally, she successfully secured distribution of the film on popular platforms like Apple TV and Google Play.

With this upcoming month of May being Mental Health Awareness Month, Tiffany Lauren Bennicke is committed to spreading awareness on this topic, adding voices of support, and encouraging vital debates that can mean the difference between life and death.

Empowering women through art and turning female protagonists into strong and inspiring figures for other women is another of Tiffany Lauren Bennicke’s aspirations with the film and with her work.

Tiffany Lauren Bennicke’s short film, “But I Want to Leave the Party,” is a thought-provoking and emotional journey through the complexities of mental health.
