This December marks a new chapter for the Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet: US rapper Travis Scott, along with his record label Cactus Jack, is collaborating as a partner. The result of this collaboration is impressive: a chocolate brown Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar ‘Cactus Jack’ Limited Edition. The new Audemars Piguet ‘Cactus Jack’ bears Travis Scott’s signature.
The list of high-profile brands that have collaborated with Travis Scott is long. After Nike, McDonald’s, Helmut Lang, and Dior, it’s now Audemars Piguet’s turn.
The 41mm watch features hexagonal screws made of white gold and a sapphire dial that reveals the view of the skeletonized caliber 5135, combining rhodium components with rose gold tones. The case and bracelet links are entirely made of brown ceramic – a first for the manufacturer – and feature their characteristic alternation of satin-finished and polished bevels. The typography of the calendar and the week display is based on Travis Scott’s handwriting. The hand of the date dial takes the shape of the brand logo. However, the most striking reference to the collaboration is the design of the moon phase at six o’clock. The usual representation of the natural satellite has been replaced by the emblematic smiley face of ‘Cactus Jack’ with a stitched mouth, whose luminescent coating glows blue in the dark. In contrast, the other calendar displays, except for the week indicator, are equipped with a luminescent material that glows green at night. Together, the watch creates a unique luminous effect in the dark. For the first time, a new strap made of textured calf leather is used for this complication, while the folding clasp in red gold is adorned with the signatures of Audemars Piguet and Travis Scott.
For the launch of the watch, the two brands have also developed a clothing and accessory collection, including hoodies, t-shirts, jackets, pajamas, shorts, and caps, exclusively sold online. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this collection will be donated to a charity project or cause of Travis Scott’s choice, according to Audemars Piguet.
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworks ‘Cactus Jack’ is limited to 200 pieces and costs around $201,000.
