Maketh Thou FW24: Stand At Ease
Even though summer is just around the corner, it’s never too early to dream of chilly fall days being wrapped up in leather looks and sipping hot lattes. Maketh Thou is just the brand to suit all your needs when the temperatures drop.
The designer Maanasa M. was inspired by the concepts of „School and After School“ and „Business Hours and Outside of Operating Hours.“ All the used leather is a by product of the food industry in Southern India where the designer‘s family factory creates luxury leather goods.
The “School” or “Business Hours” portion of the collection expands on the buttery soft plonge black leather styles introduced by her debut FW23 collection and offers a new, rich espresso brown colorway. The brand, known for taking derivatives from tailored menswear whilst bringing an exaggerated attitude to the female form, features silhouettes such as darted blazers in both cropped and trench cuts, oversize moto jackets and fitted mini moto skirt, straight leg trousers reminiscent of the 90s, and a subtly sexy little puff dress with adjustable, belt-like straps.
„Around this time last year, I watched the show Derry Girls and it rekindled some of my own experiences going to an all-girls Catholic school- the appeal of a uniform, tailored structures and clean details. The idea of a leather pinafore and structured blazers stemmed from that, and I wanted to play as much as I could with whatever shape and volume leather could possibly give. I think this whole going-back-in-time led to some more exploration of everyday, off-duty silhouettes like the low-waist jean girl groups wore in the late 90’s and that one oversized denim jacket that held so many outfits together. These pieces we so dearly loved are now made timeless (and even more exciting) using hand-stained leather.“ Maanasa M.
The “After Hours” pieces are refined shades using Maanasa’s unique denim effect leathers, a special printing technique perfected by the designer’s family factory in Chennai, India. The two stunning finishes that easily pass as blue jeans – waxed denim and distressed denim – receive nostalgic silhouettes such as the low rise, no waist pants and the upsized basic leather jacket.
