Latvian-born, London-raised artist LEGZDINA is making a fierce contribution to the world of alt pop with her debut EP, Celestial Girl and her Milky Way. Known for her magnetic blend of poetry, experimental soundscapes, and unapologetic artistic voice, LEGZDINA offers a bold new perspective on empowerment, love, and self-discovery, all wrapped in a fusion of unhurried breakbeats and rolling drum ‘n’ bass grooves.

Today, LEGZDINA is diving into her favorite songs: 3 from her own discography (including some from her debut album Celestial Girl and her Milky Way) and 3 of her all-time favorite tracks from other artists.

LEGZDINA’s
Music

Her favorite track from Celestial Girl and her Milky Way: “Icing On The Cake”

It feels in some ways the most honest out of the tape. Very much about falling in love with someone after a late night. Seeing an angel wearing all black in the morning sun of your bedroom shutters. There's something about “Icing” that feels like a snapshot of my mind in early 2022 and that is a beautiful way to keep that sentiment of falling in love alive forever.

The most popular track from Celestial Girl and her Milky Way: “Come Roll With Me”

I recently went on a group holiday to Barbados including some lovely friends of friends I'd never met. One of them had playlisted “Come Roll With Me” because he Shazamed it on the 13th of July – 10 days after the song was released. He had no link to me on social media and didn't use Instagram at all. It made me realize the power of that song and how the right people will find it in due time and course. Music connects people in ways you can't even imagine.

LEGZDINA’s favorite track from her earlier discography: “Composure”

Thank you Idris for letting me release this with you via 7 Wallace! With no major playlisting or industry support, that little song of mine continues to accrue streams and fans. Shoutout to Yiiiga and JarJ for writing this one with me. I’m never ashamed of anything from the past. In fact, it's part of my journey and I'm so proud of all the music I've released even if it isn't something I'd write anymore.

Inspirations

A song from another artist that got her into music: “Dangerously In Love” by Beyoncé

Dancing around my bedroom as a is the reason I want to find myself on a stage expressing my story, my sexuality, my existence. I think I had 4 albums on my Walkman disc player: Dangerously In Love by Beyoncé, On The 6 by JLo, In the Zone by Britney, and Laundry Service by Shakira.

A song from another artist that had an influence on this record: “Millionaire” by Kelis and André 3000

I think this genre-bending alt pop/rap record is completely the way I see CELESTIAL GIRL. It's fun, it's silly, it's electronic, and it sits across various spaces. It's lively and sexy and totally unique, and we all sing along when we hear it.

A song from another artist that she can't stop listening to right now: “Bikini” by Nick León and Erika de Casier

This one has been on repeat since summer. It's bouncy and slightly more alternative and I think Erika's voice compliments the speed and the bounce so perfectly. There's a new wave of electronic music including Guaracha, breakbeat, techno, and even trance and I find it very exciting. It has very feminine vocals and narratives complemented by new drum aesthetics and expressions of dance music. I'm glad to be part of this community.
