An Evening with: KATSEYE

The words “beautiful chaos” couldn’t be any more accurate to describe the journey, the music and the brand that is KATSEYE. Now, to see the spectacle that is sold out on the road is another level of insane.

Just as we caught up with the six-piece Grammy-nominated ensemble back in August at Lollapalooza, a sold out tour was something they couldn’t believe or expect. (Let alone Coachella 2026 and performing a string of cities for Lollapalooza’s South American leg.) But now that it’s here, the hype continues to rise on the HYBE x Geffen girl group opening up a bigger demographic than they already had.

Taking over New York for two nights, Sophia, Manon, Daniela, Lara, Megan, and Yoonchae made the city their own, playing a different venue each night: Hammerstein Ballroom for Day 1 and The Theater at MSG for Day 2.

Opening Day 1 with a video that introduced each member, KATSEYE appeared through the smoke and went into the MAMA 2024 rendition of “Debut” for Act 1. The performance included one of the many viral dancebreaks taking over socials by storm. (Yes, the Yoonchae one, if you’re wondering.) Following along with hits off their first two EPs (SIS and Beautiful Chaos) — ”Gameboy”, “I’m Pretty”, “Mean Girls”, “Tonight I Might” — what got the crowd turning heads was the performance of their new single Internet Girl that almost felt like an homage to KATSEYE’s identity of bringing absolute brainrot pop bangers; think “Gnarly” junior with a Y2K Disney theme song spin.

As if it wasn’t obvious enough that the group is not just one of the prominent faces of this generation’s pop culture and music scene, they’re a group that caters to everyone. Dancing to a snippet of “Milkshare” from their iconic GAP ad, EYEKONS of all ages, tweens (accompanied by their parents), Gen Z, millennials and up, some even donning the sold out collaboration hoodie, were dancing along. The first section of their setlist then ended off with “Gabriela” that included the dance break seen at this year’s Lollapalooza.

Act 2 paid homage to a blend of KATSEYE’s pre-debut tracks from Netflix’s Popstar Academy with songs like “Girls Don’t Like”, “Dirty Water” and “All The Same” while also performing other b-sides tracks of their EPs like “Time Lapse”, “Flame” and “M.I.A”. The group didn’t forget about their younger audience when they performed the “Monster High Fright Song” that actually had some of the young ones jumping around and singing along. To close it all off, it wouldn’t be a KATSEYE show without “Gnarly”. From the first few lines from Yoonchae, to “making beats” with Lara in the second verse, to the very end of the bass-hitting hyperpop hit, KATSEYE “ended” their set with an inclusive rave that had midtown Manhattan partying on a Friday night at Hammerstein.

In K-pop-esque inspired fashion, the six members returned for a two-song encore containing “Touch” and “My Way”. Just like how they present themselves online or on stage, KATSEYE manages to welcome inclusivity wholeheartedly through their performances and actions on stage. Picking up various LGBTQ flags and fan-made posters from the crowd, shouting out their friends, family and the cultures they represent, KATSEYE’s branding of being a global girl group is evident. And the Beautiful Chaos tour is just the beginning of what else is there to come in the future.
