Future Picks #022
5 Tracks From Artists Under 50,000 Monthly Listeners
By Mike Romero
Hello from tmrw.
We're back again with five of our favorite picks of the last week. At tmrw, we try to find the best up-and-coming music regardless of geography and regardless of genre. Here are five great UK rap favorite ArrDee tracks from five great artists.
A!MS – "Need Somebody"
Hip Hop / Reggaeton
Featuring a reggaeton-infused instrumental bed, this infinitely singable collaboration between A!MS and UK rap favorite ArrDee is really soothing while still being groovy and danceable. As awesome as it is azul, the melody is well executed and slickly produced. We dare you not to hum it back endlessly after the music stops.
BLACKBIRD BLACKBIRD – "The Darkness of the Day"
Art Pop
I'd like to take a moment to say BLACKBIRD BLACKBIRD is a great artist name. Not only is the name good, the music's great, too. The energy and enthusiasm on this track is absolutely infectious, and the song is so well-done it's addictive. There's so much charisma here, and none of it is lost in the mix, which feels like a glorious artifact from the golden age of mp3 blogs in the early 00s. Simply put: this will make you smile and bop along.
Alexayndra – "Death of a Dream"
Rock
Produced by acclaimed rock producer Mitchell Marlow, the low end on this track is fuzzy and rumbly, and the guitars really bite. I dig Alexayndra's voice – it somehow feels both powerful and frail and perfectly counterbalances the heavy instrumentals. Overall, I really love the vibe and it feels raw and authentic.
HEXXY – "HEAT M3.0"
Hyperpop
This is INSANE. Hyperpop is one of our favorite genres, and HEXXY absolutely nails it. The distorted bass is such a unique texture that almost feels like a secondary snare. Great vocals – and the bilingual possibilities make HEXXY a really exciting artist to watch. This is one hell of a debut.
Holly Lerski – "Sweet Decline"
Folk/Rock
This is honestly a gorgeous song. It feels timeless, rustic, and sincere. Holly's vocal turns on "Sweet Decline" are perfectly executed, but not too polished. It's incredibly endearing. This is also masterfully arranged – I was particularly drawn to the organ part. Whoever played it knows what they're doing! The harmonies in the climax are also awesome.
