MoonPay X Games Chiba 2026 wrapped up a weekend filled with elite competition and cheering crowds at Makuhari Messe. Featuring more than 80 action sports athletes representing 16 countries, the event is the second stop of the new MoonPay X Games League (XGL). X Games Club (XC) Tokyo leaves Chiba tied with XC New York at the top of the standings with 1,770 points. XC São Paulo is in third place with 1,610 and XC Los Angeles rounds out the standings with 1,510 points.

Sunday’s action in Chiba featured seven medal events in BMX and skateboard. The inaugural MoonPay X Games League event in Chiba delivered a weekend to remember, with dramatic finishes, milestone performances, and breakthrough moments from defending champions and first-time medalists alike.

Skating in his inaugural X Games season, Free Agent Egoitz Bijueska became the first athlete from Spain to earn an X Games Skateboard medal when he collected silver in Sacramento. In Chiba, the 15-year-old picked up where he left off, taking gold in a stacked field. The teen posted the highest score of the event on his first run. Skating fast, going big and flashing tech wizardry, his command of the course was undeniable. Bijueska’s 92.66 was enough to make the dream come true. "I just can’t believe what happened! One year ago, this was a dream,” he said. “I can’t believe I got to come to X Games and I can’t believe I won a gold medal.”

Tom Schaar (XC LA) came through in the end to earn silver for himself and 80 points for his club. Schaar built a solid foundation with his Run 1 score placing him in bronze position. In Run 3, he upgraded his final two tricks to bump into silver with a 91.33. This was Schaar’s fifth consecutive X Games Park podium and 20th X Games medal, breaking his tie with Bucky Lasek for the fifth-most Skateboard medals in history (XC São Paulo GM Bob Burnquist holds the record at 30, which is also the most all-time most X Games medals). After missing out on the Park podium in his last two starts, Free Agent Keegan Palmer looked to be back in form on Run 1 in Chiba. He was using the course to its fullest: He smacked a backside noseblunt and a frontside blunt stall on the box jump plexiglass extension before finishing his run with a lofty backside kickflip Indy over the hip of the larger box jump feature. Palmer has five total X Games medals, all in Park (2 gold, 2 silver, now 1 bronze).

With a women’s-competition-first alley-oop one-foot 540, 11-year-old Mia Kretzer (XC LA) won her second gold medal in Women’s Skateboard Vert Best Trick. She earned the gold medal two years ago at X Games Ventura 2024 that made her the youngest X Games athlete, youngest medalist, and youngest gold medalist at age 9. She closes X Games Chiba with 360 points on the board for her club. “It’s the best,” Kretzer said of the new X Games League. “I get to connect with people I don’t usually get to connect with. Being on a team with Tom Schaar is really cool, and Haze is the best manager. Team LA!” She is smashing all the X Games age records, and is now the first athlete to win three gold before turning 13.

Misuho Hasegawa (XC Tokyo) was the oldest athlete on the podium at 15 years old. She held the lead after Run 2, then was bumped to silver medal position with Kretzer’s third run. Judges liked Mizuho’s Cab heelflip Indy in Run 4 better than her earlier make, a kickflip hand flip Indy, but the upgrade didn’t improve her position. She now owns nine total X Games medals: By the close of the Vert Best Trick contest, Hasegawa’s 360 points had her atop the XGL points standings. 13-year-old Reese Nelson (Free Agent) took bronze with a switch kickflip boardslide to regular in Run 3 for her second medal in the discipline and third X Games medal.

Mike Varga (Free Agent) landed the 900 decade on his third attempt to claim gold, becoming the first rider to land the trick in competition. During a decade, the bike stays nearly in place while the rider's body rotates 360 degrees around the handlebars, then the rider completes a 540 for a combined 900 rotation. It's one of BMX's most technical tricks, and Varga executed it flawlessly. The victory is Varga's fourth X Games gold in the discipline and his first since 2022. As a free agent after the inaugural X Games League Draft, the Canadian made his case in the winner's interview, "As a free agent, I'm just out here doing my thing. If anyone is looking at me, I've got a trick, and I'll throw it down. Hit me up!"

After capturing BMX Park gold on Saturday, American Marcus Christopher (XC LA) capped off his weekend by earning another medal in Park Best Trick with a never-been-done (NBD) trick. On his fourth attempt, he landed the flair triple downside tailwhip, the same trick he unsuccessfully attempted four times in Sacramento. It was ruled an NBD. With his performance, Christopher has now earned 220 points for XC Los Angeles. Logan Martin (XC NY) added another podium finish with bronze, giving him five X Games medals in six starts across Sacramento and Chiba in 2026.The 32-year-old Australian landed a 360 flip double downside tailwhip on his third run to secure the medal. His remarkable consistency has earned 390 points for XC New York, making him the team's highest-scoring athlete and the third-highest point scorer in the X Games League overall.

Now an eight-time Vert Best Trick gold medalist, with an incredible seven-win streak in the discipline, Gui Khury (XC São Paulo) has taken full ownership of his kickflip body varial 900 that has made him unstoppable. “I think competing for the team makes all the difference and a gold medal is much more special now,” he said. He’s now won Vert Best Trick gold with the same trick five times in a row, usually in Run 1. Khury’s gold rush is turning into one of the longest single-discipline streaks in X Games history, tied at third-longest with Lindsey Jacobellis’ seven-win streak in Women’s Snowboarder X racing. BMX Vert dominator Jamie Bestwick and SnoCross racing dominator Tucker Hibbert each had nine-win runs at the height of their careers.

With an alley-oop version of his signature “Raijin” alley-oop kickflip varial to body varial stalefish 540, Soya Inomata (Free Agent) now owns six medals from six starts in the discipline (4 silver, 2 bronze). Asked why he named his trick for the god of thunder in Japanese Shinto and Buddhist mythology, he said, "I learned the trick at Chichibu Skate Park, which is near the Chichibu shrine to Raijin in Saitama, and named it that because there's a storm of different things happening in the air to make the trick work.” A late addition to the field, 13-year-old Ao Nishiwaka (Free Agent) made it count, earning bronze with a fakie 720 to body jar. It’s the first medal for the young athlete.

Momiji Nishiya (XC NY) landed a crooked grind nollie heelflip in Run 4 to win gold. The trick was an X Games first, earning both the gold medal and the $10,000 MoonPay X Games NBD Award. The 18-year-old was unable to compete at X Games Sacramento. After finishing 8th in Women's Street on Saturday in Chiba, bouncing back with gold in Street Best Trick made for a sweet redemption and a return to the podium three years after her most recent previous medal. “I’m very happy that I was able to contribute to the team,” she said. With her first Street Best Trick medal, Nishiya now owns five X Games medals. Her résumé extends beyond X Games. At the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, she won gold just one month shy of her 14th birthday, becoming Japan's youngest-ever Olympic champion and the third-youngest Olympic gold medalist in history.

Speaking of age, Funa Nakayama (Free Agent) was the oldest competitor in the contest at 21. She was one of three women skaters competing at X Games Chiba who weren’t teens. The only undrafted athlete in the field proved she belonged. Riding first in the lineup, she patiently battled through the contest before landing a backside heelflip down the 5-flat-6 double set on her fifth attempt (Run 7) to earn silver. Surrounded by seven talented Japanese skaters, Australian Chloe Covell (XC NY) stood her ground, battling her way to bronze in Women's Street Best Trick.The 16-year-old landed a crooked grind to nollie heelflip out of the hubba ledge on her fourth attempt (Run 7), securing her 11th career X Games medal. The bronze boosted her X Games League campaign, bringing her to 260 points for XC New York.

In her first return to the top of the X Games Park podium in four years, 17-year-old star Sky Brown (XC São Paulo) took an early Run 1 lead and improved in Run 2, fending off a challenge from Mizuho Hasegawa (XC Tokyo). “I don’t have a lot of words, I am very happy, especially to win in my hometown in Japan, with my mom here and my family here cheering me on,” she said. “It’s very special.” This was Brown’s first X Games Park gold medal since her wins in 2021 and 2022. It's her fifth medal overall. Brown now has 180 points on the board for XC São Paulo after Chiba, and is ranked #21 in the XGL athlete standings. It’s the second-highest rank among single-discipline competitors, behind Sacramento and Chiba BMX Street gold medalist Garrett Reynolds. “All week I have been cheering on all of the team, and I felt the need to get this medal for them and represent them well,” she said. “I am very happy to have done that!”

Hasegawa’s silver medal Park points, combined with her points haul in Vert and Vert Best Trick between Sacramento and Chiba, leave her in first place in the X Games League overall standings, in strong position to challenge for season MVP honors. Heili Sirviö (XC NY) made the podium with bronze after a disappointing eighth place finish in Sacramento, which was the X Games Salt Lake City gold medalist and X Games Chiba 2024 bronze medalist’s only time missing the podium from four starts.

16-year-old Ginwoo Onodera (XC NY) has maintained a podium-perfect showing in Street, taking home his third gold in the discipline and successfully defending his win from last week in Sacramento. This ties him with Chris Cole for fourth-most Skateboard Street gold medals, behind Nyjah Huston with 11, and Yuto Horigome and Paul Rodriguez at four. Onodera’s Run 1 was good enough for gold, highlighted by a switch heelflip frontside noseslide down the hubba to start, a Cab kickflip on the quarterpipe mid -un, and a kickflip backside tailslide backside bigspin out of the hubba to finish. Asked whether representing for XC New York has added a new level of pressure for him to perform, he said “Not much of a ‘pressure,’ it’s more of a happiness that I am able to contribute. I am just really happy to be drafted to [XC] New York.”

Juni Kang (Free Agent) followed up his gold medal performance yesterday in Street Best Trick, with his second silver in Street (along with a Street bronze). Reportedly, Kang refused two offers to represent XGL clubs as a call-up athlete in Sacramento. Rather than take the paid airfare, hotel and share of potential winnings, Kang repped himself and paid his own way. Following X Games Chiba 2026, he is the highest ranked Free Agent with 340 points, tied with Onodera and Kretzer for fourth overall. Sora Shirai (XC Tokyo) came out firing with a Run 1 strong enough to earn his third bronze and fourth medal in the discipline (he was the gold medalist in Street at XG Chiba 2024).With this event marking the last contest of Chiba 2026, Shirai’s 60 points helped XC Tokyo tie with XC New York for the lead before going into the championship stop in New Orleans.
