As the first girl group to debut under PSY’s P NATION, four-member act Baby DONT Cry – Yihyun, Mia, Kumi, Beni – doesn’t so much introduce themselves as crash through the gates.
Baby DONT Cry’s debut digital single, [F Girl], arrives packed with scorched guitar riffs, defiant lyrics, and a message that’s hard to sugar-coat: don’t box us in, don’t tone us down.
Tapping into what they call a “Baby Rock” sound, Baby DONT Cry blends punchy pop rhythms with rock and metal textures rarely handed to rookie girl groups – especially not for their very first statement. But “F Girl” – written, composed and arranged in part by i-dle’s Soyeon – isn’t just noise for the sake of it. Laced beneath the bravado is a coming-of-age confidence that still wavers and strengthens in real-time.
“F Girl” kicks off like an alarm — immediate, and deliberately hard to ignore. Pop-punk guitar riffs grind against bratty pop production, while the structure dips and swells: explosive choruses give way to tightly wound vocal bridges, pulling just enough tension before snapping back with force. The “ABCDEF Girl” hook is dangerously repeatable.
Its B-side, “Bet You’ll Regret It,” lands with a different kind of impact. Sly and tightly coiled, it’s fresher and brighter, but no less biting. There’s a trace of Soyeon’s stylistic imprint here too: a lyrical shrug disguised as a smirk, attitude served with a side of charisma — daring listeners to underestimate Baby DONT Cry at their own risk.
Taken together, the two songs draw sharp edges around Baby DONT Cry’s sound: unruly and high-voltage. It’s less about rage or rebellion, and more about refusing to apologise for the way they take up space — loudly, sweetly, and intentionally.
But as the members of Baby DONT Cry explain, stepping into this kind of attitude hasn’t always come naturally. There’s laughter within late-night rehearsals where post-exhaustion delirium turns into bonding. From leader Yihyun’s quiet push to find a more assured version of herself, to Mia’s journey from ballads to metal-toned choruses, the group’s debut maps out a process. They’re not just telling listeners to be confident and unapologetic; they’re figuring out what that looks like for themselves, in practice, with each other.
In one of their first-ever interviews, Baby DONT Cry reflects on the strange joy of long practice nights, and what success means beyond numbers. The message may be loud – but these are voices still finding their own way to carry it.
The ‘F Girl’ concept is all about being unapologetic and confident. How do you relate to that attitude in your own lives — is it easy or something you’re still working on?
Mia Just like our song ‘F Girl’, we strive to be confident in everything we do, staying true to ourselves while always being respectful. I think that sense of confidence and honesty, while building positive relationships with others, really reflects who we are as a group.
How do you support each other as members when expressing this identity feels vulnerable or difficult?
Kumi All of our members are always very supportive of one another. In particular, our leader Yihyun takes great care of each member, which makes her someone I can always rely on.
What’s one memorable or funny moment that happened while preparing for your debut — something that really sticks with you when you look back at this era?
Beni We spent a long time together as we prepared for our debut. Since we often practiced for long hours, we got to know each other’s weird and random energies too! There was one day when all four of us were very tired, and we all burst into laughter over something totally random. Looking back, it’s those ordinary, everyday moments I got to spend with the members that have become the most special to me.
Your music has a concept that feels sweet yet savage. Are there moments during recording, shoots or filming when you feel the ‘Sweet’ side of the concept naturally comes out? What about the ‘Savage’ side?
Yihyun Whenever we’re filming, I think our ‘Savage’ side comes through really well. But usually, off stage, we just like joking around, are pure at heart, and enjoy having fun! I think the ‘Sweet’ side comes out naturally when we’re off stage.
Your music is described as ‘Baby Rock’ with metal influences that aren't typical for girl groups. How does stepping into a rock/metal sound challenge or inspire you compared to more traditional K-pop styles?
Mia Honestly, when I was a trainee, I used to sing more ballads rather than strong genres. So, when I first heard our song, matching my facial expression to its vibe felt a bit awkward and challenging. Because of that, I practiced a lot to bring sincerity and depth to my expressions. I’m really looking forward to showing everyone our stage soon!
‘Bet You’ll Regret It’ has a strong, warning tone. What personal stories or moments did you think of when recording this song?
Kumi Just like the title, ‘Bet You’ll Regret It’ carries a warning tone, so I focused on conveying that feeling to everyone through the song. So, everyone, be sure not to miss out on Baby DONT Cry, and don’t regret it later! *laughs*
How do the two tracks, ‘F Girl’ and ‘Bet You’ll Regret It,’ represent different parts of your own personalities or experiences?
Beni I think both ‘F Girl’ and ‘Bet You’ll Regret It’ are quite different from our real personalities. Off stage, the members are playful and have a cute side. But when we’re on stage, we try to channel the confident and charismatic vibe of the songs as much as possible.
The MV shows girls living by their own rules. Has embracing this concept changed how you see yourselves or how you want to grow as artists and individuals?
Yihyun Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever had a moment where I felt as confident as the concept of this track. But while preparing for our debut and filming the music video, I feel like I was able to discover a more confident version of myself.
When you think about fans who will connect with ‘F Girl,’ what specific mindset or action do you want to inspire in their daily lives?
Mia They should make sure to keep their head held high! Don’t let other people’s opinions shake them, and stay true to what they believe in. Someone who’s confident is always charming!
If you could try any new concept or genre after ‘F Girl,’ what direction would you love to explore next?
Kumi I really like our current concept, but I think it would be fun to show fans a glimpse of our true selves too, maybe with something more natural and cute. I’m also really curious to know what kind of concept our fans would like to see us try next!
What does success look like for Baby DONT Cry beyond charts and numbers — how do you measure it personally?
Beni I think success comes from having a clear sense of your own values and goals. For us, our aim is to share our music and performances with as many people as possible, even if it’s just one person. If our fans feel happiness through us, then I believe that’s what true ‘success’ is. I hope our positive and confident energy reaches everyone.
