This fall, multi-platinum singer-songwriter Calum Scott steps into an extraordinary musical moment with the release of his rendition of Whitney Houston’s iconic hit, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me).” Released via Capitol Records, this symphonic duet merges the soaring vocals of Houston with Scott’s emotive performance, marking the first time her original stems have been used.
Already certified eight-times platinum by the RIAA in the U.S., the track celebrates the 40th anniversary of Whitney’s legendary career, showcasing her enduring impact on music and culture.
Growing up, Calum recalls how his mother’s car rides were filled with Whitney’s powerful ballads, shaping his vocal style and passion for storytelling through song. “Never did I think I’d be trusted with Whitney’s voice to reimagine her song,” he says. Collaborating with producers Jon “MAGS” Maguire, Andrew Yeates, and Charlie T, and paying meticulous attention to preserve Whitney’s original vocal integrity, Scott’s version transforms the dance-pop classic into a moving symphonic duet that captures the depth of longing and joy inherent in the original.
Beyond honoring Houston’s legacy, this release is part of Calum’s third studio album, Avenoir, which blends soul-stirring ballads with dance-ready tracks. Known for creating music that resonates deeply with listeners’ life moments—from celebrations to heartbreak—Scott continues to cement his place as one of the most heartfelt voices of his generation.
