CHINCHILLA

Is Done Avoiding the Pain

By HQ

In a moment of raw emotional unraveling, CHINCHILLA gave birth to ‘Avoidance’—a stunning, stripped ballad written and recorded in just 45 minutes. Born from a panic attack triggered en route to a writing session, the track captures a brutal intersection of burnout, heartbreak, and meteoric success. Following the viral explosion of ‘Little Girl Gone’, CHINCHILLA found herself running her career solo, sleep-deprived, and emotionally gutted. Her new single marks the first in a summer trilogy—a vulnerable, soul-baring chapter from one of the UK’s most exciting emerging voices. With a run of sold-out headline shows and a massive support slot for Justin Timberlake behind her, CHINCHILLA is showing us exactly what it means to be powerful, honest, and human in 2025.

‘Avoidance’ is so raw and honest—can you take us back to the moment that text hit your phone and how it sparked the whole song?

I was in a cab on my way to a writing session in a period of my life that was really crazy, my career had just taken off and I was going through a break up at the same time. I received a message in that cab which sent me into an anxiety attack. My body couldn’t handle the heartbreak. I got to my writing session (with Hampus Westermark) and we had 1 hour - we wrote and recorded the whole thing in that time, it was really lead by that surge of anxiety- like it just desperately needed to get out of my body.
