After nearly a decade dazzling audiences with WJSN, one of K-pop’s most internationally recognized girl groups, DAYOUNG steps into the spotlight entirely on her own with gonna love me, right? – a solo debut that is both a declaration of self and an invitation to connect.
Every choice on gonna love me, right? came from gut instinct. “It told me, ‘This is your time,’” she says of committing to the solo album. “And I said to myself, ‘Yes, this is it.’” That conviction guided her from selecting “body” as the statement track to filming under the blazing LA sun, where shifting light and shadow reflected the album’s duality: confident yet tender, bold yet vulnerable.
The title reflects that balance; on one hand, it oozes self-assurance: “of course you’re gonna love me, right?” On the other, it swells with a hopeful vulnerability: “you’re gonna love me, right?” All three tracks are sung in English, giving DAYOUNG room to experiment with the type of phrasing, energy, and attitude that gives her debut a universal feel. Title track “body” cruises with summer-night intensity, pairing rolling R&B beats with a slickness that mirrors her own instinctive performance style. The punchy “number one rockstar” channels raw ambition and grit, while the playful “marry me” injects self-love and humor, showing the many sides of her solo voice.
Stepping out from a multi-member group tested her resilience and self-trust, and making creative decisions alone – from music to visuals – pushed her to embrace uncertainty. Filming in LA, performing “body” in one take, and singing entirely in English were the types of confident risks she took to reveal her authentic self – and gonna love me, right? is the result of that journey: a solo chapter that is playful, vulnerable, and unmistakably DAYOUNG – an artist performing on her terms, inviting listeners to share in her courage and joy.
