Kings Elliot Shares Earnest New Single “The Promise”
The Promise - a stirring, poetic slice of indie-pop that explores the fallout of a relationship fractured by broken promises. As the defining release ahead of the full project, The Promise encapsulates the essence of Born Blue, setting the tone for what’s to come.
This release follows Kings Elliot's recent win at the Swiss Music Awards, where she received the award for 'Best Breaking Act' - a significant milestone and a testament to her remarkable talent.
“For the first time, I’ve turned something very painful into a song that feels like euphoric sadness that makes me want to scream, run, dance, and cry—all at once. Letting it out into the world is terrifying, as the wound behind it is still so fresh. Stepping into a new soundscape that poured out of me like it had always been there has been incredibly rewarding as an artist, it’s an anthem for abandonment issues! I honestly can’t wait to play it live—I have a feeling it’s going to be the highlight of the set.”
Heart-wrenching yet engaging, the track showcases Kings’ signature ability to fuse vulnerability with pop immediacy. Like her previous singles Starcrossed and Love and Landslides, this standout release leans into vintage, retro-charged textures - swelling strings, haunting piano lines, and her unmistakable, theatrical vocals. It’s a sound that feels plucked from an old Hollywood romance, yet grounded in the urgency of modern emotional realities.
In a poignant nod to the upcoming album, Kings Elliot references the title Born Blue within the The Promise’s lyrics, anchoring its themes of melancholy directly into the heart of the track. It’s a line that reflects the emotional nature of the album, about carrying sadness like second nature, and learning to move through it.
Across the Born Blue rollout so far, Kings’ Elliot’s new material reveals an artist in transition - still rooted in melancholic, cinematic pop, but strengthened by new perspectives on heartbreak, healing, and through it all, strength.

More about Kings Elliot
Kings Elliot has always been deeply interested in what makes a song, starting at around the age of seven. Growing up in a small Swiss town with her British mother, she kept a thick binder with all the songs she liked, after printing out the lyrics to reflect on why they resonated with her so much. "I’m kind of obsessed with lyrics and melodies. It’s always been that way." She was also obsessed with creating worlds and escaping into her imagination, something she carries into her musical endeavors, reflected in the artwork of her singles, which show a sprite-sized version of the artist in forests, surrounded by depictions of real animals she has rescued.
Through her dedication to the craft of songwriting and building a community, she has already managed to engage fans around the world, who refer to themselves as "sick puppies" and gather at her shows and in her weekly Twitch stream to discuss the highs and lows of their lives. Kings Elliot and her unique artistry has been celebrated over the years by celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Lewis Capaldi, labeled as a "future star" by BBC Radio, with her songs featured in TV hits like Grey's Anatomy, and even contributing the theme song for the video game blockbuster The Callisto Protocol.
After supporting Imagine Dragons in stadiums around the world, touring with rising troubadour Stephen Sanchez in North America, and opening for her hero, Lana Del Rey at her historic Hyde Park gig, Kings Elliot made the decision to take some necessary time to focus on her mental health. Now, she is back, stronger than ever, looking forward to releasing exciting new music and returning to the stages she has missed so much.
