When MEOVV arrived in September 2024, they didn't ease anyone in. Their debut single "MEOW" landed in the Top 10 of Billboard's World Digital Song Sales. Three months later, they were picking up Favorite Rising Artist at the MAMAs. They hadn't even released an EP yet.
MY EYES OPEN VVIDE came in May 2025 as their first body of work and filled in the picture – six tracks that moved freely between genres, moods, and languages, with "HANDS UP" earning the group their first music show win. The foundation was there. BITE NOW – their second EP – is what they build on it.
The five-track set arrives thirteen months after MY EYES OPEN VVIDE. That record had teeth. This one bites. The difference is intent – where the first EP felt like a group finding its footing, BITE NOW sounds like one that's done waiting.
Produced under the direction of TEDDY – the founder of THEBLACKLABEL behind BLACKPINK’s defining sound – BITE NOW pushes the group into new territory that feels earned rather than exploratory. The title track "DDI RO RI" is the centrepiece – a collision of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor and modern drill production that shouldn't work as well as it does. From there, the EP moves through the EDM rush of "In my hands," the restrained guitar-led swagger of "Favorite song," and the eerie alt-R&B closer "Revenge.”
What comes through in MEOVV’s exclusive commentary for us is how much of this record the members shaped themselves. NARIN, ELLA, and GAWON co-wrote the title track alongside TEDDY. NARIN and GAWON wrote "Favorite song" and "Revenge." Speaking to tmrw for this feature, GAWON shares how she fought to keep "Revenge" on the EP through a recording process she describes as the most demanding of the project.
Below, SOOIN, GAWON, ANNA, NARIN, and ELLA take you through BITE NOW – track by track.
ELLA Since ‘Hit ‘Em’ is such a powerful song, we thought placing it first on the album would make a really strong impression right out the gate. I wish listeners would feel like they have something to relate to when they listen to our new EP starting with ‘Hit ‘Em’. All of the songs are so different that I hope they can reach out to the hearts of people listening and resonate with them.
NARIN ‘BITE NOW’ is an album that really shows MEOVV in their ‘beast mode.’ I think ‘Hit ‘Em’ is a song that best represents our more fierce and raw side, both in our sound and attitude. I hope listeners feel like they’re witnessing the beginning of a whole new chapter for MEOVV. More than anything, I hope they can really feel our powerful energy and connect with it. I also hope this song gives them the same sense of confidence and strength that we felt while making it.
ANNA We felt this song had to be the opening track of the album. We loved how powerful it would feel from the start! We hope listeners feel excitement and the strong energy from the very beginning of the album! We also hope it creates anticipation for what’s to come throughout the project.
SOOIN I think ‘Hit ‘Em’ was chosen as the first track because it’s a song that only MEOVV could truly pull off and perform. I hope listeners feel a sense of freshness unlike anything they've experienced before, and through that, discover MEOVV’s uniquely powerful and iconic charm – something they can’t find anywhere else.
GAWON This track is our most high-energy offering, both sonically and performance-wise. It’s more powerful than anything we’ve done before, so it felt only right to open the EP with it and make an immediate statement. It’s the perfect introduction to this new chapter and sets the tone for everything that follows. The song opens with an immediate bass line that still catches me off guard every time I hear it. I love that sense of unpredictability, and I hope listeners feel that same excitement as they begin their journey through BITE NOW. Each track reveals a different side of MEOVV – colors and emotions we’ve yet to fully show – so I wanted this opening moment to feel like the curtain rising on an entirely unexpected new chapter for us, one that is both bigger and better.
ELLA ‘DDI RO RI’ to me is the exact feeling when you’re in a situation where you don’t know what to do and you’re caught off guard. My opening verse in ‘DDI RO RI’ is something I’m really proud of. I experimented with a new sound that I’ve never tried before, and it was really fun recording that part. I feel like the lyrics “when I walk in like a threat” represent us now coming in as a stronger version of ourselves. Since we spent a lot of time preparing for this release, we have grown and become more confident.
NARIN It’s a song that gives me a real sense of authentic confidence. ‘DDI RO RI’ is an expression people say in hopeless moments. We had a lot of those ‘DDI RO RI’ moments while preparing this album too, and ironically, shouting ‘DDI RO RI’ during those times helped us laugh things off and bounce back. It’s a very special song to us that really represents our mindset. ‘DDI RO RI’ turns frustrating moments into strength, and that’s the energy we wanted to show as a team. No matter what situation we’re in, we want to face it with confidence, laugh it off, and keep moving forward! I really like my rap part and the chorus. I feel personally attached to it because it’s a part that came together while I was in the booth just experimenting. The line ‘When I walk in like a threat’ especially gives me a lot of confidence.
ANNA Since it’s the title track of this album, we think it’s an incredibly addictive song that best captures the overall vibe of ‘BITE NOW’! We especially love the chorus of “DDI RO RI”! It’s so addictive that once you hear it, it stays in your head. It really stood out to us from the very first listen. We think it’s a song that really shows MEOVV’s confidence after all the hard work we put into preparing for this album. It’s also a track that clearly showcases our unique color and identity.
SOOIN I think this song really reflects our artistic direction – it samples a classical piece that no one would have expected and reinterprets it in a way that only MEOVV could truly make their own. Personally, I absolutely love the outro, both the song and the performance! The choreography matches the lyrics perfectly, and there’s a moment where we do the ‘DDI RO RI’ part with a pose that looks like we’re screaming. I think that section expresses the idea that people are so amazed by how cool and beautiful we are when we appear that they can’t help but scream. That’s why this is the moment that stands out to me the most! This is something only MEOVV can do, which is what makes it feel so fresh. I think it also reflects our direction as a group – we’re constantly trying to show something uniquely our own and push our identity even further.
GAWON The iconic melody sampled in ‘DDI RO RI’ comes from Bach’s classical composition, but in Korea it’s also commonly referenced in everyday conversation when something goes wrong or turns out disappointing. We took the Korean pronunciation associated with that melody and reimagined it in a way that felt uniquely ours. Because the melody is both a timeless piece of music and something deeply embedded in daily life, I wanted the song to embody that same duality – something iconic yet approachable, familiar yet fresh, and ultimately something everyone can enjoy in their own way. Recording my verse for ‘DDI RO RI’ was especially fun because my lines are heavy on attitude. One moment I personally love is the line, “Oh, we love to cause a scene!” Since it isn’t a technically demanding vocal part, it gave me the freedom to focus on character and delivery instead. It was really enjoyable trying to capture that bold and playful energy through the way I spoke that line.
ELLA Whenever I listen to ‘In my hands’, I always can’t help but dance. Since the title track is so strong and heavy, we thought it would be a good palate cleanser, so we put ‘In my hands’ as the next track. This song is really special to me, because the meaning of the lyrics are basically that we can do whatever we want because the world is ours. I hope listeners can enjoy the fun upbeat vibes but also get some inspiration from the lyrics, as they are very positive and uplifting!
NARIN Just like the lyrics say, it’s a song that makes me feel like I have the whole world in my hands. It’s an uplifting, feel-good track that makes you feel like a superstar. I hope this song makes people feel good every single time they listen to it. It’s all about mood, and sometimes you just need to feel a little overconfident and enjoy your life. Since ‘DDI RO RI’ reinterprets a classical piece, it has a more intense and darker energy. In contrast, this song feels more playful, upbeat, and lighthearted. I think it’s kind of like having ice cream after a really great meal – it feels refreshing.
ANNA It has a completely different vibe from the title track, so I think it makes the flow of the album more interesting. I hope listeners can feel the same positive emotions that I felt when I first heard it. I’d be really happy if the song helps people feel comfortable and happy while listening to it. For me, it’s a comforting and empowering song. It was also my favorite track from the very first listen! The more I hear it, the more charming it becomes, and it’s a song I’m personally very attached to. It’s also one of my personal favorites, so I hope people naturally continue listening to ‘In my hands’ after ‘DDI RO RI’.
SOOIN I hope listeners can feel the confidence and youthful energy that we express through this song! I absolutely love this song, and I couldn’t wait for our fans to hear it too. It feels like the kind of song that makes you want to jump around and dance! Since I love it so much myself, I was even more excited for everyone to hear it. [laughs] If the album starts off with something incredibly intense and powerful, then having a much more approachable, upbeat, and cute song come next makes people think, “Oh? They can do this too?” I felt that it would help us connect with people on a more personal level, which is why I thought ‘In my hands’ was a great fit after ‘DDI RO RI’!!
GAWON When we were listening through a long list of songs to determine which tracks would make the EP, ‘In my hands’ immediately stood out to me as one we absolutely needed to include. It felt refreshing and unlike anything we’d explored before, yet I could instantly envision us bringing it to life in our own MEOVV way. It’s such a feel-good song, and the lyrics carry that same trajectory, so I have a lot of love for it. I hope it inspires listeners to become their own number one fan and leaves them feeling like they truly have the world in their hands. I think it’s the perfect contrast to the title track, both sonically and emotionally, which is exactly what makes it such a strong complement. It shifts the mood and refreshes the listening experience while introducing another side of MEOVV’s sound. We also prepared performances for this track, so it felt natural to place the three songs with visual interpretations consecutively within the EP, allowing the story and experience to flow seamlessly.
ELLA I wish our fans would take away the way we have some positive dissing in this song. A lot of songs that have lyrics like this can sonically come off pretty harsh, but since we placed them over a light beat I think it’s funny to see the contrast.
NARIN ‘Favorite song’ is a message to the people who doubt and judge us without really knowing who we are. We had so much fun writing the lyrics, and we hope people will relate to its bittersweet feeling.
ANNA Personally, I love how cute and charming the atmosphere of this song feels. It’s such an easy and enjoyable song to listen to, and I hope it becomes the kind of track people naturally come back to anytime, anywhere!!
SOOIN Personally, this was a song that made me start humming along the very first time I heard it, and it immediately made me think, “Wow, this is really good.” I hope fans can enjoy it the same way – singing along and having fun with the song!!
GAWON We had so much fun working on this track because we leaned into more direct, playful, and almost cheeky lyrics to complement the simplicity of the melody. I love that contrast because it highlights the way we make a song distinctly ours, infusing it with personality and giving it a character that feels uniquely MEOVV.
ELLA I think this is the newest genre that we’ve been experimenting with for us personally as a group. It is very R&B and I feel relaxed when I hear it. I wish that listeners can enjoy the thought we put into the delivery of each line – not just singing the parts well, but also putting emotion into it.
NARIN ‘Revenge’ shows a much more emotional and vulnerable side of MEOVV. There’s this mix of anger, disappointment, and hesitation in this song. It also gave us the chance to show a different side of our vocals, so I think it makes the ending of the album feel even more special. I want listeners to feel the raw emotions of the song and really connect with them. It captures the complicated feeling of being hurt by someone you once cared about, and the emotions of not wanting revenge but feeling like you’re being pushed to that point.
ANNA I hope the unique tension and emotions within this song stay with listeners for a long time. I’d be so happy if it becomes the kind of song that keeps coming back to mind and makes people want to listen to it again and again!! ‘Revenge’ is a song that gently wraps up an album filled with many different sides of MEOVV. It has a lingering quality that stays with you long after it ends. ^^
SOOIN I hope listeners can really immerse themselves in the song, understand its story, and use their imagination while listening. I hope it becomes a song that feels even more enjoyable because of that. I think it wraps up the album nicely with a more steady beat and melody, while still leaving listeners wanting to come back and listen to our tracks again. It’s the kind of song that creates that addictive feeling that keeps drawing you back!!
GAWON This is the song I personally fought hardest to keep on the EP, because it was also the most challenging track for us to record. ‘Revenge’ is the most emotionally charged song on the project, and getting all five members fully aligned in delivering the exact sentiment and intensity the song required took a great deal of trial and error. It was a demanding process, but we felt it was the perfect final piece to complete the story of the EP, so we pushed through. We’re incredibly proud of how it turned out. Sonically, it’s also the closest to the kind of music I listen to on a daily basis, which makes it especially meaningful to me. I hope this song becomes a kind of black hole for all the emotions people have been bottling up inside. Both the lyrics and the way we approached the vocals carry a lot of pain, but they also express a raw honesty and almost unapologetic response to negative experiences. Whenever I listen to it, I feel a sense of release – as if all that negativity is being pulled away. The lyrics may be vengeful, but in a way, the song takes care of the revenge for you, leaving behind a feeling of relief and catharsis.
