Mr. Dutch: Beads, Beats & Bold Moves

By HQ

Afro-fusion is having a global moment, and at the heart of it stands Mr. Dutch — a multi-talented Nigerian artist and founder of Dutch Dreams Records, who’s steadily carving his name into the international music scene. His latest single “Shekere” — featuring fellow Afro-fusion stars Terri and Minz — is a romantic, groove-driven celebration of love and rhythm, fusing soft percussion with sultry vocals. Named after the West African percussion instrument, Shekere becomes a metaphor for the heartbeat of romance: steady, vibrant, and full of joy.

Mr. Dutch is not just a vocalist — he’s a storyteller and visionary. With millions of streams across his growing catalogue, collaborations with Burna Boy, Barry Jhay, and Aymos, and standout singles like “Ungowami” and “Never Stopping,” his music continues to resonate across borders. For “Shekere”, he also stepped behind the camera to direct the music video — a vibrant visual ode to Lagos, love, and artistic passion.

With a new album They Thought I Was Done on the horizon, Mr. Dutch speaks with TMRW about authenticity, sonic experimentation, and the evolving Afro-fusion movement that he's helping define from the inside out.
