Seven Lions & the Seattle Symphony x tmrw

By HQ

For the first time in its history, the Seattle Symphony has partnered with an electronic music artist, and they’re passing the torch to Jeff Montalvo.

Fondly known as Seven Lions, Montalvo finds himself in the middle of a 60-piece orchestra playing 17 of his own compositions. As he trades a DJ controller for drumsticks, and steps into a new role on the stage—he finds himself alongside Seattle Symphony’s composer Andrew Joslyn for Opus Harmonia.

In this exclusive sneak peek, Seven Lions takes it all in, and shows tmrw why an orchestra and electronic music artist are actually the perfect pairing.

Group photo after the show

“Everyone together backstage after the show. We made these commemorative pieces for everyone who performed as a small way to remember the night.”

Jeff sitting alone in the auditorium

“I went out and sat in the audience for a few minutes before doors just to see everything from their perspective. Benaroya Hall is an incredible room.”

“Standing onstage for a minute before doors. The room feels very different when you know it’s about to be full.”

Orchestra during the show

“The orchestra during the show. I tried to take in as much of this view as I could throughout the night.”

Backstage room

“A look backstage before the show. Controlled chaos with everyone getting ready for the night.”

Jeff on drums

“I played drums throughout the entire set. This was my first time playing drums live as Seven Lions, so definitely a little nerve-racking going into it.”

“Ocean” sheet music

“The sheet music for Ocean. Really cool seeing a song I’ve known for so long translated onto the page like this.”

Wide stage and lighting

“Seeing the full stage and lighting come together for the first time. We wanted the room to feel completely different for this show.”

Full orchestra / rehearsal view

“A look at the full orchestra during rehearsals. So many moving pieces had to come together to make this show happen.”

Behind the strings

“Watching the orchestra play these songs from behind the strings. Pretty surreal seeing the music take on a completely different life like this.”
