Pretty Girl

Fearless Beginnings And The City That Raised Her

Behind a screen sat a sniffly hay-fever-ridden Emilia Predebon, taking the call from the floor beside a bookshelf in DJ Boring’s house. Her disposition signaled to me that this conversation was going to be introspective and deeply human. I'd actually been to a Pretty Girl set before: Club Vinyl in Denver gave me a warm welcome as I watched the room glow blue, and the familiar intro of “Arc” began to play. It was a set that showed itself hugely unique among other live shows, and left a lingering impression. Feeling like a breath of fresh air, there was an underlying thought: “Wow, we really don’t have music like this here.”

Predebon has been Pretty Girl for almost a decade now, and she carries herself with a fearlessness that’s led to playing live shows all over the world. A dreamer, dancer, producer, singer, and selector are all the different hats she wears. But balancing them isn't always seamless.

We sat down and spoke about all of the aspects of dance music that are vital and essential to the community, advice to aspiring producers, and why dancing is one of the most important rituals of being an artist in edm.
