Overall, Doja Cat’s Scarlet 2 CLAUDE enriches the original album's sound, offering something new for both long-time fans and newcomers alike.
The original edition of Doja Cat’s album Scarlet was released in September 2023, with 17 songs clocking in at just under an hour. Fast forward to April 2024, and Doja Cat released Scarlet 2 CLAUDE — adding seven new songs and bringing a new album cover to the project. Each of the new tracks is an instant classic, sounding like some of Doja’s earlier work while incorporating elements of traditional rap and R&B and featuring fresh collaborations.
“ACKNOWLEDGE ME” begins Scarlet 2 CLAUDE with a slow ascent. The beat drops in under an almost gospel-like introduction with heavy chord changes and sampled vocalizations.
It’s a pretty strong opening for the seven new tracks, and it still fits with the overall sound of the original songs with its nods to old-school sounds.
“DISRESPECTFUL” is one of the songs that I keep going back and listening to time and again. Her flow on this song meshes so well with the instrumentals and the beat, and the only word that comes to mind to describe this song is groovy.
“URRRGE!!!!!!!!!!” features A$AP Rocky, and what I appreciate about it most is the fact that it gives both artists the chance to shine. It is very much a Doja Cat song in terms of instrumentals and overall sound — but when A$AP Rocky’s verse begins, everything but the bass line goes silent. It’s an attention grabbing move that really makes his verse stand out before the beat drops back in.
“OKLOSER” is the most popular new song from the collection. This track is just classic Doja Cat — it’s fun, it’s bouncy, and it’s full of unique rhymes and rhythms and punchlines. “MASC” features Teezo Touchdown and was the first song from Scarlet 2 CLAUDE to get a music video. This track is focused more on Doja Cat’s talents as a vocalist rather than a rapper, and she really steals the show.
One thing I love about Doja Cat is that she will do something unexpected. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a song entitled “PISS” before this record.
“HEADHIGH” is the last new addition on Scarlet 2 CLAUDE and hearkens back to “ACKNOWLEDGE ME.” It helps the new songs come full circle but also works as a good transition to “Paint The Town Red” and the rest of the original songs on disc 2.
hances are, if you know about Scarlet 2 CLAUDE, you’ve already heard 2023’s Scarlet. But if you’ve heard only the big hits, Scarlet 2 CLAUDE is sure to have at least one new song that you’ll love. Doja Cat is definitely an entertainer and is an absolute force to be reckoned with.
