Your music in three words?
Ethereal, honest, open
What message or feeling do you hope people walk away with after listening to your music?
Comfort or peace - like a hug - a reminder that they’re not alone.
When you’re not making music, what’s something surprising you love to do that helps fuel your creativity?
Spending time in nature, whether that’s swimming in the ocean or a river, exploring a new place, or taking a walk. I’ve had so many ‘light bulb’ creative moments on walks!
How do you balance creating music that’s true to yourself while also staying in tune with what’s trending in the industry?
I try not to focus or cater to music trends, especially while I’m creating the music. I think it’s important to try and keep that part of the process as sacred and intimate as possible - the music needs to be 'true to yourself’ in order to have any heart. I think you can be strategic and considerate of trends at the tail end, when promoting the music and reaching people on the internet. But to create music that’s true to me, I try to shut everything else out.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned about the music industry that no one told you before you started?
That you’re in charge of your art and your career, and no one is going to come along and hand you success. No one is going to care about what you do as much as you do. So, steer the ship. Know what you want, and go for it. Don’t compromise on what your gut is telling you because someone else thinks they ‘know better’. If you’re lucky, there will be people to support and nurture your career along the way, but it starts and ends with you. Trust yourself!
