Jazz School Soul Meets TikTok Stardom

Some artists are trained. Others are born with it. Stacey Ryan is both.

The LA-by-way-of-Montreal singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist has spent the last few years building one of the most compelling pop careers to emerge from the internet’s creative chaos — and she’s done it with musical chops that go far beyond the viral moments. A jazz-school graduate and a skilled performer on trumpet, piano, and guitar, Ryan rose to prominence in 2021 when her TikTok open verse challenge for “Don’t Text Me When You’re Drunk” exploded — turning into a global duet chain that ended up on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

But what could have been a fleeting moment became a launchpad. Stacey signed to Island Records, toured the world, dropped her debut EP I Don’t Know What Love Is, and saw her single “Fall in Love Alone” climb international charts — all while refining a sound that fuses jazz, soul, R&B, and pop into something unmistakably her own.

Now independent and fully in control, she’s entering a new chapter. Her debut full-length album Blessing In Disguise is due this August, and the early singles show a deeper, more confident artist at the helm. It’s Stacey Ryan, version 2.0 — sharper, freer, and ready to make this next era her boldest yet.

We caught up with Stacey to talk about her jazz roots, viral fame, the creative leap into independence, and how she’s finding love — and herself — in the chaos of it all.
