With over 6x Platinum and 8x Gold certifications, The Rasmus have long reigned as one of Finland’s most successful rock exports. Now, they return with WEIRDO, their 11th studio album and their first for Better Noise Music, out September 12. A genre-defying body of work that blends moody alt-rock, anthemic hooks, and deeply personal lyricism, WEIRDO is as much a sonic evolution as it is a philosophical manifesto.
Crafted across continents—from the sun-drenched hills of Greece to the vibrant energy of Nashville and the icy pulse of Finland—the album was co-written by frontman Lauri Ylönen, alongside legendary songwriters Desmond Child(Aerosmith, Bon Jovi) and Marti Fredriksen (Ozzy Osbourne, Black Veil Brides). The result is a deeply intentional collection of tracks that explore identity, alienation, transformation—and most importantly, embracing your inner misfit.
Ylönen shares, “I’ve always felt like an outsider… I’ve been called a weirdo, misfit, and freak. That used to make me angry—but not anymore. It’s become my strength.” That message of self-acceptance isn’t just lip service—it runs through every note of this record.
Whether headlining charity festivals in Ukraine or pushing their sound into new territory, The Rasmus show no signs of slowing. WEIRDO isn’t just an album—it’s a rallying cry for anyone who’s ever felt like they didn’t quite fit in.
We caught up with Lauri to talk about the making of WEIRDO, the power of being different, and why now is the time to lean into your inner freak.
