KOKOROKO isn’t just a band—it’s a collective force reshaping the contours of contemporary jazz and Afrobeat. Emerging from London’s vibrant musical underground, the eight-piece ensemble has carved out a sound that is both steeped in tradition and defiantly forward-looking.

With a name that translates to “be strong” in the Nigerian language of Urhobo, KOKOROKO fuses West African rhythms, jazz improvisation, and soul into something deeply personal yet universally resonant.

Since their self-titled debut EP, the group has garnered international acclaim for their electrifying live performances and cinematic compositions that stir both the heart and the feet. Now, with their sophomore album Tuff Times Never Last set for release on July 11, the band continues to evolve—pushing sonic boundaries while remaining grounded in their cultural roots and collaborative spirit.

In this exclusive interview, we catch up with KOKOROKO to talk about the story behind their name, the inspiration for their latest singles, and what it means to create music that speaks to both heritage and hope.
