VAYONN

Are Growing Up In Public

By Hasan Beyaz

Survival shows film people at their most pressured, which makes them an unusual way to get to know someone. VAYONN – SEN, MASATO, AYANG, JINYU, TERU, and MANO, who debuted on 6 July 2026 with the EP Youth Today – are working through that gap in public.

Several of the six came up through survival programmes, and debuting under iNKODE – the agency founded by veteran artist Kim Jaejoong, who also produced the group – meant introducing themselves again, this time as one act. Early numbers say viewers are willing to meet VAYONN head-on. "MUAH!", a dance-pop song that treats summer heat as the first sign of a crush, has passed 12 million views, while pre-release single "Watta Day" sits at 2.7 million.

What the members say in conversation is more revealing than the stats. AYANG explains that the shows mostly caught them under pressure, while living together has exposed the everyday version, including one member who came across as intensely charismatic on screen and turned out to be sweet and constantly joking.

MASATO explains how the group debuted without knowing each other for long, so there were awkward stretches. He also describes the step from contestant to member as a jump in responsibility for everything the group does. JINYU, meanwhile, says he feels much more at ease now, and more willing to show what makes him unique.

The name VAYONN unpacks as "Voices Amplify Youth and Open New Narratives," and the members' own answers treat youth as a process rather than a finished product. SEN asks fans to accept the rough edges: "We still have a lot to learn and room to grow in many ways, but we hope you'll embrace even our imperfections." For a group with 12 million views on its title track, asking to be judged on growth puts the next release at the centre of their story.

We caught up with VAYONN about life after the survival shows, the pressure of a first debut, and what they want people to understand beyond the numbers.
