YOON SAN-HA

Talks Self-Discovery, Honest Songwriting, and Why NO REASON Needed No Explanation

By Hasan Beyaz

YOON SAN-HA has been performing since he was fifteen. As a member of ASTRO, the K-pop group he debuted with in 2016, his career was built within a collective, where identity is often a shared project. By the time he released his debut solo mini-album, DUSK, in August 2024, he had already spent eight years in that environment. DUSK was a first step out on his own. CHAMELEON, released nine months later, pushed further, testing different sounds and personas. Both solo efforts were, in their own way, about possibility; about figuring out what YOON SAN-HA could be.

NO REASON, his third mini-album, arrived in May with a different premise entirely: not what he could be, but who he already is. Where previous releases came with concepts and rationale, this time he starts from something simpler: the decision to stop explaining himself, and simply show up as he is.

It's a small shift in attitude that changes how the music feels. The title track "IDK ME" leads with a cool admission of not fully knowing yourself, then builds into something confident anyway. "NO REASON" is pop-punk energy with no apology. "demo," the minimally arranged closing track, is the most unvarnished thing he's put on record to date. For an artist still relatively early in his solo run, NO REASON is a meaningful move – one which shows precisely where YOON SAN-HA is today.

Read on for our exclusive conversation with YOON SAN-HA about his solo career, how he understands himself now, and why he’s constantly asking himself questions.
